Amanda Flowers (b. 1995) is an interdisciplinary artist from the Bay Area, based in Los Angeles. Flowers initially attended Arizona State University to study astrophysics before rediscovering her passion for painting and returning home to pursue art in 2015. She later moved to Los Angeles, where she became immersed in the entertainment industry while developing her practice as an emerging artist. In 2023, Flowers received her BA in Studio Art from California State University, Los Angeles. Flowers’s work draws from her dreams, inherited familial memories, and imagined terrains of the “The Shadow Realm.” Her practice is deeply informed by the journey of her maternal grandparents, who migrated from North Carolina during the Great Migration in the late 1960s.

Through envisioned ancestral motifs, she creates bridges between generations honoring her lineage. Drawing from a constellation of Black spiritual traditions and mythologies, Flowers moves between the emotional subconscious, the metaphysical and material histories of Black life and enslavement. These intersecting histories become the foundation for a personal cosmologies, a self-authored science for mapping the spaces where memory, emotion, and ancestry reside. Working with burlap, wood, clay, oil paint, and elemental materials, Flowers builds layered environments in which the ancestral and imagined can coexist.
